With more than one hundred islands to choose from, if you are planning to go to the Maldives on Holiday or Honeymoon, you should carefully compare the details of each island resort as they all have different personalities. Different travellers look for different things in a vacation so have a look at my top ten tips for booking a luxury vacation in the Maldives and you could be one step closer to heaven.

1. Package Deals - Do you require a vacation that includes accommodation, meals and specific activities? if you are planning doing a specific activity like scuba diving then choose a package that includes this activity which will save you a considerable amount of money.

2. Budget - With the bewildering amount of Maldive holidays on offer just setting a maximum budget for your holiday will drastically reduce the amount of available destinations.

3. All Inclusive or Room only? - Choose the latter if you won't be spending much time in the resort and don't want to be tied down to eating in the same place, choose the All inclusive if you will spend a most of your time in the resort and you want to keep an eye on how much money you're spending.

4. Room Type - Most resorts offer several room types ranging in price from reasonably priced to eye-watering expensive. Do you want to stay in a beachside villa or enjoy the benefits of a hotel? What about a water villa which is actually located over the water? Be very aware that varieties of accomodation vary considerably, from traditional hotel rooms to rustic huts with open-air bathrooms.

5. Seasons - The temeperatures in the Maldives rarely fall below 25C but there are times during the year that you need to take into consideration if you want to avoid the possibility of high rainfall. There are two monsoons, the South-west from May to October, and the North-east from November to April. The driest time to visit the islands are from November to April.

6. Romance - A vacation in the Maldives is the perfect destination for a Honeymoon or romantic getaway, the smaller the island the more intimate and private the experience.

7. Children - Not all Maldive islands cater for children so check that there is suitable entertainment or children's clubs so that the little ones are occupied while you are relaxing on the beach.

8. Nightlife - There tends to be very little night-life but size is important in the Maldives, the larger the resort the more live music, bars, and restaurants there tends to be. Most resorts have informal discos around the bar areas, sometimes featuring live bands. Barbecues and beach parties are also popular.

9. Language preferences - certain resorts in the Maldives tend to cater for specific nationalities like the Italians, Germans or English, If this is an important factor in the choice of island then consult the holiday review websites like Tripadvisor.com for more information.

10. Activities - Ch oose an island that will cater for your interests, there are plenty of things to do; submarine rides, sea plane rides, visit Male, go island hopping, dolphin watching or night fishing.
